As our students settle back into the norms of college life, it has been great to see our students back in action on placements. We have been lucky to be back in at David Lloyd and AVRO, and we have managed to open up a new placement with the Cancer Research shop in Oldham. Maria has been liaising with the team there and there may also be some paid employment opportunities with them in the future. I will let her tell you more..
Another week busy on placements and a busy new venue for our students. As I mentioned in the last blog, I took 2 students to the Cancer Research Charity Shop in Oldham this week for 2 full days learning new skills on the shop floor and in the sorting room. The manager Cath was on hand at all times and took us through all the Health and Safety regulations and fire safety procedures. Cath took us around the whole of the shop showing us what happens in each separate area and explaining the process before the items get to us in the sorting room and we help prepare them for the shop floor.
Once we were back in the sorting area we went through the bags of clothes. We had to add price tickets, put the garments on a hanger, add the right size clips and then hang them on rails ready to be steamed. From the sorting room they are sent down in the lift and then hung out in the shop on the appropriate area.
We also sorted through a mountain of jewellery, unknotting the chains and sorting through rings and bracelets to see if they were suitable for sale. This is very time consuming and requires a great deal of patience and eagle eyes to match items up but is well worth it when they are hung up neatly in the shop.
We have some great pictures of our students getting busy in the shop working alongside the staff and learning the ropes..
Mrs Nelson has a new date for your diaries..
Mrs Nelson held our first Parent Group meeting virtually. It was lovely to hear and share experiences from our parents and governors. We very much look forward to engaging with you in the upcoming term and arranging those key services to gain information to support you as a family. If you as a parent would like anything specific to be supported on within the Parent Group, you can email Mrs Nelson on email@example.com. She will try her utmost to support this.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 30th June on the college site at 1.30pm and invites will be sent nearer the time. Why not come and join us? You can meet other parents, have a chat, a cake and a cup of tea!
If you would like to join the New Bridge College Parent Group you can contact Mrs Nelson who will gladly provide you with more information.
I hope you have a lovely weekend,
Jaina and the team
